Cryospain has teamed up with IDESA to provide new large vacuum insulated cryogenic pressure vessels

Cryospain is an industry-leading cryogenic engineering company in its own right. We are proud to announce, then, that we are expanding our range of services and products thanks to a collaboration with Spanish company IDESA. The company belongs to the Daniel Alonso Group and has workshops in Avilés, Asturias. It specialises in the manufacture of heavy equipment for the Oil & Gas industry. Our joint experience and technical capacity means we can provide new vacuum insulated vessels for LNG and other liquefied gas storage. The cryogenic storage will come in a range of sizes and capacites as well, starting from 500m3.

Cryospain & IDESA: the sum of two companies’ experience and expertise

On one hand, IDESA’s brings its extensive experience in the manufacture of large-scale pressure equipment. On the other, Cryospain’s high technology in cryogenic insulation, particularly in high vacuum. The combination means we can bring cutting-edge technical solutions to market in record time. We have even started manufacture of our first large-scale cryogenic vacuum insulated vessels.

Cryospain and IDESA are already working together on four 1000 m3 LNG tanks for a bunkering project. Firstly, Cryospain brings its expertise in cryogenic designs, selection and installation of low transmission and high vacuum insulators. Then IDESA can draw on experience in mechanical design and heavy boiler equipment manufacture.

Cutting-edge tools for cutting-edge products

The entire design process is done in 3D using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Cryospain is in charge of the complex piping system for the tank connection, using its experienced technical team of engineers. We will carry out a stress study using finite element software and following the ASME B31.3 code. Meanhwile, IDESA will undertake the entire mechanical design, which can take on gigantic proportions. The vacuum insulated vessels can be 51.3 metres in length and 5.9 metres in diameter each.

Cryospain will provide other expertise in cryogenic equipment as well, like mandatory helium leak tests for inner and outer tanks. It is also responsible for installing the entire high-efficiency insulation system, essentially made up of expanded perlite and vacuum.

Finally, Cryospain provides all the equipment protection systems, such as the vent valves and pressure and vacuum safety valves. This as well as the device for maintaining the pressure in the tanks during emptying operations, sometimes reaching flow rates of 250 m3/hr.

A renewed and reinforced commitment to quality and high technology

We will design and manufacture all the vacuum insulated vessels in accordance with the European Directive 2014/68/EU and the design code ASME VIII, div 1. And we’ll also test scrupulously during the manufacturing process to meet all regulatory, client and end user quality standards.

The last step in the process will be the transport and complete assembly of the tanks and vaporisers on site by IDESA and with advice from Cryospain.
